I broke one of my key rules…
Never give advice unless asked.
A friend of mine has had a long struggle with poverty. Recently, he came into a little bit of money. This was truly a blessing for him.
This was my advice: Have an emergency fund.
I take the Dave Ramsey approach. Have 3 months of living expenses in savings.
Having an emergency fund helps to build momentum.
Momentum is one of the key ways you get your life back on track. Every little step helps to make the next step. It helps to keep you from back tracking. It helps give you a little more solid foundation on which to build.
My friend didn’t mind me giving this advice. He said it was already done. I could also see the improvement in his demeanor.
Hope has a way of doing that.
