Psychologist, Dr Jordan Peterson once said that life isn’t made of matter. It’s made of what matters.
In other words the meaning of life, is the meaning.
I once had a patient ask me how she could discover her purpose in life. But that’s an unfair question. Because part of your purpose in life is discovering your purpose.
And I know this seems like circular logic. But let me explain.
You are more than just one thing.
You are a combination of your principles and your actions.
It is impossible to separate the two. And if they don’t match up, then you will feel lost.
The reason my patient felt lost was because she thought being a good parent was her purpose, but the track marks on her arms told a different story.
Her actions were a lullaby to her child. One that only she could write. And she was tormented.
But the hero’s journey has to start somewhere.
And the further the hero has to travel, the more desperate the plea of the innocent, the larger the dragon to be killed….the greater the story.
What does all this mean? It means, your purpose starts in your mind but then must be carried out into the physical world.
You “feel” how you tell your mind to feel. And you do what you tell your body to do.
Control your mind and then create your life with your actions.
Unhappy with your job? Find a new one.
Need more money? Sell everything you don’t need and work your tail off.
Overweight? Get into the gym and stop eating so much crap food.
Tired of DHS in your business? Stop doing drugs, get a job, and act like you care.
We all choose freedom. Freedom to choose. Freedom to fail. Freedom to be who we are. And in this freedom comes the complexities of anxiety, depression, addiction, disease, death, and heartbreak.
But that’s how it has to be. You can’t have the Yin without the Yang.
Where you’re at now is not where you will always be.
Get your mind right. Start taking some right actions. And watch your life improve.
It may not be easy but it’s just that simple.
And this is the beginning.
Want to know your purpose? Do these 3 things:
- Set goals and start accomplishing them. Big or small. Doesn’t matter. Just get started. Progress is a good thing.
- Find someone with a need and do something good for them. We’re all in this thing together. If part of the ship sinks, the whole thing goes down.
- Only worry about what you can control. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SKILL YOU WILL EVER LEARN.
These 3 rules will take you on a journey of self discovery unlike anything you could ever imagine. You don’t need self help. You don’t need a mastermind class. You don’t need “anointed prayer cloth”.
You don’t need a guru.
Your track marks tell a story.
But the ending of that story is up to you.
Make it a good one.
