work harder

I need motivation.

No, that’s not it.

I don’t need motivation. I need vision. Enthusiasm. Momentum.

You build momentum by doing.

Something. Maybe anything —that gets you a little closer.

The open task is overwhelming. It feels daunting. But when you chip away, you start to feel good about yourself.

I’m at the beginning. So not enough has been chipped away yet.

Working harder isn’t as ball-breaking as it sounds. It really just means to work. Because more than likely you were distracted. More than likely you were a bit relaxed and coasting.

Working harder means exercising your brain. It is your most valuable muscle after all.

And if you don’t use it. You lose it. If you booze it, you lose it. If you cruise it, you lose it. You get the idea.

So work it. Read and write every day. Practice chess. Think about things. No social media. No Netflix. No HBO. Maybe a little YouTube. (we’re not sad-masichists here)

Let that shit go and work harder.

Pray more.

Eat less.

Make more lists.

Ideas bring more ideas. Eventually you hit on a good one.

Writing starts to get smoother. You’ll start linking some stories together. And before you know it, you’ll have the skeleton of a book. From the skeleton you attach your ligaments and tendons, your muscles, your fascia. Add some fat, trim some fat. Get the blood pumping.

This is the way.

And it all starts today.

Every day that you work.

So…

Work harder.
