I once met a man of science
a wizard with figures and facts
but when it came to living
he didn’t know bloody jack.
I once met a man of logic
his mind so tried and true
but when it came to love
he didn’t know his heart from a shoe.
I once met a man of religion
his coat crisp and white
but when he smiled, his teeth fell out
and that didn’t feel quite right.
Then I met the Lady of Sorrow
around her neck, a rope
her feet were tired from walking
her belly pregnant with hope.
The snake was crushed with reason
It’s scales black and worn
On midnight in mid-season
the curtain so thick, was torn.
Then, the Man of mystery
neither magic nor words to explain
And when he came down, the world reborn
Different yet still the same.
