At first, she wouldn’t look me in the eye.
This can be a symptom of psychiatric illness. Or maybe she’s just nervous. Afraid of being judged. Unsure if she’s in the right place. Unsure if I can help her or not.
I ask a question about her medical history and she gives me a laundry list of previous diagnoses. I crack a joke. And there it is. She looks at me, smiles, and starts to laugh.
And now she knows. She’s in the right place after all.
