Vitamin C is awesome!
It is an essential nutrient with powerful antioxidant properties that can help boost the immune system, enhance iron absorption, promote skin health by aiding in collagen synthesis, and support wound healing. Vitamin C also has the potential to help mental health conditions, reduce the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and improve overall immune function, potentially shortening the duration of viruses.
I sometimes recommend high doses of Vitamin C to patients.
My typical protocol for Vitamin C is this:
1 gram daily for one week, then 1 gram twice a day for one week, then 1 gram three times a day.
However, excessive Vitamin C intake may cause side effects, including digestive issues like diarrhea, nausea, and stomach cramps. High doses can also theoretically lead to kidney stones in some people, particularly those with a history.
If you notice any side effects from the Vitamin C, stop it for three days and if side effects resolved, you can restart at the lower dose.
High dose Vitamin C could be a game changer. It’s cheap, easily available, and well tolerated.
But don’t take my word for it…
These are just general recommendations. You should always talk to your doctor before changing any meds or adding any supplements.
