A shot of whiskey for your morning coffee…

I keep having weird things happen to me.

Things that make me think… strange things are happening.

Things that make me think…we aren’t alone in the multiverse.

I was listening to the radio.  I turned it off.  Said a prayer.  Turned the radio back on.  And heard the answer as plain as day with the first words spoken after I turned the radio back on.

I started to laugh.  It was too surreal.

I won’t give you all the details because it would take a novel to explain  the back story.

The other day I was thinking about texting a friend.  I went to pick up my phone……and he had texted me.  I know this could easily be contributed to coincidence.  But I don’t think so.

I live my life believing that these strange coincidences are messages to me.  And so in a way they are.

Reality is perception.

I have friends that live the opposite.  They don’t believe in any grand theme, grand design, or grand Messenger.

To them life is just a random collection of events.  Thousands of years of evolution’s selection.  Their kids are nothing more than a biological determinism to live.

Either way.  We make a choice.

To believe or not.

And our lives then become exactly what we say they become.

Now I’m not saying we create our reality.  We don’t.  But we do create the emotional lubrication for the moving parts of the machine.

Here’s the deal.  I’ve had a lot of doubts and fears throughout my life.  But the more I look, the more I see.

And if you want strange things to happen to you as well……

then open your eyes.

It’s the parable of the talents.

14-18 “It’s also like a man going off on an extended trip. He called his servants together and delegated responsibilities. To one he gave five thousand dollars, to another two thousand, to a third one thousand, depending on their abilities. Then he left. Right off, the first servant went to work and doubled his master’s investment. The second did the same. But the man with the single thousand dug a hole and carefully buried his master’s money.

19-21 “After a long absence, the master of those three servants came back and settled up with them. The one given five thousand dollars showed him how he had doubled his investment. His master commended him: ‘Good work! You did your job well. From now on be my partner.’

22-23 “The servant with the two thousand showed how he also had doubled his master’s investment. His master commended him: ‘Good work! You did your job well. From now on be my partner.’

24-25 “The servant given one thousand said, ‘Master, I know you have high standards and hate careless ways, that you demand the best and make no allowances for error. I was afraid I might disappoint you, so I found a good hiding place and secured your money. Here it is, safe and sound down to the last cent.’

26-27 “The master was furious. ‘That’s a terrible way to live! It’s criminal to live cautiously like that! If you knew I was after the best, why did you do less than the least? The least you could have done would have been to invest the sum with the bankers, where at least I would have gotten a little interest.

28-30 “‘Take the thousand and give it to the one who risked the most. And get rid of this “play-it-safe” who won’t go out on a limb. Throw him out into utter darkness.’

—Matthew 25:14-30

I don’t think this story is about money or talents or gifts.  At least that’s not all of it.

I think it’s about your life.  The small amount of time you’re given on this planet.

Life is too short to be wasted.

Make the most of whatever situation you have.

It may suck right now.  But that doesn’t mean it won’t get better.

I have a patient that’s been clean from meth for 3 weeks.  By the time you’ve read this, she may have relapsed.  But I put it here as a testament to a life in transition.  Because there is no reason to dwell on her failures when her success is so much more amazing.  And if you can be clean for 3 weeks, you can be clean for 3 years.

They say seeing is believing.

So open your eyes.  And take it in.

The life of the mystic is like a shot of whiskey in your morning coffee.

Something to take the edge off.

Take the cup.

And drink.

p.s.

I recently published my first book. DRINK THIS BOOK WHILE READING YOUR MORNING COFFEE.  It’s 30 days of devotions.  Not theology.  Just my thoughts.  It would be awesome if you gave it a review on Amazon because that helps spread the word.  Love it or hate it.  Doesn’t matter.  Any publicity helps.  So thanks!
