In the middle.
He was giving writing advice. And that’s how he started all his stories. Right in the middle of a sentence.
I don’t write as much as I used to. You can call it writer’s block if you want. It’s probably just laziness.
To be a writer, you have to write. 500 words a day is a good start.
But for me, today…
I’m lucky to get 10 words down.
Of course, I write all day at work. I listen to people give me their history and then I put it into medical jargon. The symptoms, the time line, the severity. What makes them better/worse? Etc, etc.
But is this real writing?
I’m not sure.
But the point is the same. The point is, to tell a story.
My notes are your story. How your symptoms come together to speak a narrative and give a diagnosis. Maybe I need help. Maybe I need your physical exam, some labs, and an X-ray to complete the story. But it’s there nonetheless.
I think of your story at night. It whispers to me. It keeps me awake at times.
Did I get it right?
What will the ending be?
Is there time to change?
I read the book CHOOSE YOURSELF by James Altucher several years ago. And though the title may sound like some type of narcissistic propaganda, it’s not. It’s a book about navigating through life, overcoming failure, and finding success.
CHOOSE YOURSELF IS A MUST READ FOR ANY BUSINESS OWNER!
There’s something about Altucher’s writing style that resonates with me. He tells a story, keeps it simple, and has a powerful message.
I came across it at the perfect time in my life. I was branching out and trying new business ideas and needed something to help ground my guiding philosophy.
I’ve always wanted to write a book. Not because I thought I was a good writer, but because of something deep inside me that I couldn’t even explain. (And maybe that’s why I’m a bad writer. Because the point of writing is explaining difficult concepts, ha)
But here’s the deal about Choose Yourself: Altucher showed me that I could tell my story for no other reason than because I wanted to. It doesn’t have to be accepted or liked or win an award or even sell a copy. It’s for me and maybe my kids or maybe my kids’ kids.
Either way, it’s something.
And doing something is better than doing nothing.
Maybe I should re-read it.
Who knows where the journey will take me?
What about you?
What have you thought about doing but just never had the guts to see it through?
Start a business? Go to Europe? Run for congress?
Maybe it’s time you Choose Yourself!
P.S.
Check it out and let me know what you think
