What the Heck is Ikigai? And why it matters

Ikigai

It’s a Japanese term.  It means reason for living.  Purpose.  Your meaning.  What drives you.  Etc.

People like to ask me about time management.  How do I fit it all in? Wife, 5 kids, 3 businesses (soon to be a 4th), daily exercise, writing, lunch with friends.  It all gets done.  And I don’t feel stretched too thin.

The answer is: Ikigai.  I follow my purpose.

I do the things I love and I try to limit the rest.  It’s the 80/20 rule. 20% of the stuff you do brings about 80% of the results you want.  So I built my life around that 20%.

I don’t “manage” my time.  I fill my time with the things that I enjoy.

If you struggle with addiction or depression, please understand this: Your life still has meaning.

There is purpose inside of you.  And when you start to pursue your true life, the pull of drugs will be lessened.  Despair will be crushed.  And your life will be yours again.

Maybe not at first. But with time.

We all know people that have completely thrown away their life.  We think…”what a shame.”

But what is it we think they have done wrong?  Why is it sad to see this?

Because life has meaning.

So find yours.

Ikigai
